If you read this monstrous serial with an expectation of quality (or even coherency) you will be sorely disappointed. There's a suggested scythe duel in a medically sealed darkness chamber, a mob discovering that their accused vampire has transmogrified himself into a brick, the build-up to a mysterious midnight meeting being derailed due to a clock misread, and five or so weddings worth of repetitive hijinx. This famous penny blood, Varney the Vampyre, is comparatively well written, with an original plot. In this long list, you can find works in different literary forms, not just in English but in many other languages of the world, composed by a diverse and interesting array of authors. Evokes gothic atmosphere maybe with three sentences overall (the first chapter is alright). Bullets don't stop him.
