Thad's own books – cerebral literary fiction – are not very successful. Stephen King books are long, so The Dark Half is needlessly long. He writes in a “semi-dreaming state” (It), he writes so quickly he doesn’t have time to stop (The Shining), or he writes in a Budweiser-induced blackout (Cujo). If that’s the case, then what is it that crawls out of the grave and begins sleeping with women and beating Beaumont’s groundskeeper to death with his own prosthetic arm?
